Description
This is an outbuilding located immediately to the north-north-west of Bullhead Farmhouse, dating from the 16th century. Its original purpose is unclear, but it was unlikely to be used for agriculture, and the absence of a fireplace suggests it was not intended for domestic use either. The walls are constructed of very small pieces of coursed stone rubble, with cob facing on the inside, while the left-hand wall has been rebuilt in brick. The roof is hipped and covered with corrugated iron.
The building has a one-room plan and stands two storeys tall. The front is asymmetrical, featuring a doorway at the right-hand end with an original round-headed moulded wooden frame and a heavy studded plank door. There is a later inserted doorway to the left and a lean-to against the right-hand end. Pigeon holes can be found below the eaves.
Inside, the building has heavy, roughly chamfered ceiling beams. The roof retains both original trusses: one is a side-pegged jointed cruck and the other is a raised cruck. The roof structure includes high morticed cranked collars, a diagonal ridge, and threaded purlins, with all timbers in a clean condition.
