Description

Bude Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid-17th century, which was modernised in the 20th century. It features rendered cob and rubble walls and has a gable-ended thatched roof. At the right gable end, there is a rendered rubble brick shaft, and a rear lateral rendered rubble stack.

The farmhouse likely has a three-room-and-through-passage plan, although the lower end on the left is very long and may have been extended, indicated by a new disused stack at its lower end. The hall is heated by rear lateral stacks, and the inner room stack at the gable end may have been added later. The passage at the rear was blocked in the 20th century when a staircase was inserted.

The exterior is two storeys high and features an asymmetrical five-window front with late 20th-century small-paned two-light casements. There is a leanto porch from the 20th century at the centre, which has a glazed door behind it.

Inside, the hall contains an open fireplace with a chamfered and ogee-stopped wooden lintel. The hall and inner room have chamfered cross beams. The roof trusses have not been seen but are believed to consist of straight principals, which may be of interest.
