Description
Lane End Cottages is a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century. They have plastered cob walls, with the left-hand part featuring a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end, while the right-hand wing has a corrugated asbestos roof. The left-hand cottage has a rendered brick stack at its right end, and the right-hand cottage has a rendered stack that is likely made of rubble.
The cottages are arranged in an L-shape, with each having two rooms at right angles to one another, and each includes one heated room. The left-hand cottage has an end stack for its right-hand room, while the right-hand cottage features an axial stack. The exterior of the left-hand range displays a regular two-window front with early 20th-century two and three-light casements. There is a central open-fronted gabled porch from the 20th century with a part-glazed door behind it. The right-hand cottage, which projects from the right end, has a first-floor three-light 20th-century casement without glazing bars, a one-light 20th-century casement below, and a two-light small-paned 19th-century casement to the right. Additionally, there is a 20th-century corrugated iron porch at the center with a 19th-century plank door behind it.
Inside the left-hand cottage, the right-hand room features an open fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel that is partially covered and a shallow shelf at the rear. The roof timbers were not inspected, but it is believed that no timbers are visible on the first floor.
