Description

Slade Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob or rubble stacks topped with 20th-century brick, and a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatch. The house has a three-room-and-cross-passage plan and faces south, with a service room at the right (east) end. A 19th-century staircase is located at the rear of the passage. There is an end stack to the inner room, a rear lateral stack to the hall, and a massive projecting rear lateral stack to the service room. The farmhouse features 19th-century outshots with lofts at the rear of the hall and inner room. It is two storeys high and has a regular five-window front, with late 19th-century and 20th-century casements, most of which have glazing bars, while some are 20th-century iron-frame casements. The front door is a late 19th-century six-panel design.

The interior has been largely modernized in the 19th century, but the original layout remains intact. Late 17th-century to early 18th-century features, such as fireplaces, are concealed. There are some late 17th-century to early 18th-century oak doorframes with bead-moulded surrounds and applied small ogee architraves. The roof, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, consists of oak A-frames with pegged lap-jointed collars.
