Description
Deer View Cottage is a Grade II listed cottage, likely built in the early 18th century, with some alterations from the late 19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and features a gable-ended asbestos-slate roof. The cottage has a two-room layout facing south, with a large external lateral square stack at the front and a 19th-century integral end stack on the right. The right gable end may have been altered or rebuilt in the late 19th century, as indicated by the 19th-century windows and brick stack.
The exterior includes a probably 19th-century small flat-roofed dormer on the left and a large central stack with chamfered offsets. There is a catslide roof over a bread oven to the right, which has a semi-circular projection. The entrance is located to the left of the stack and features a lean-to glazed porch. The right gable end has two windows on the ground floor and attic, with 19th-century two- and three-light wooden casements that have dressed-stone segmental-arched heads. The interior was altered in the 19th century, and only the ground floor was inspected during the survey in August 1987.
