Description

Bonds Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled internally in the early 20th century. It is constructed from rendered stone rubble and cob, with the rear left unrendered. The roof is thatched and was originally hipped at both ends, but is now gable-ended to the left. There are brick stacks at each end of the building.

The layout consists of two rooms with a central staircase, and the left-hand room is partitioned axially to create two small service rooms at the rear. There is an additional direct entry into the left-hand room, which is believed to have once housed a second staircase, suggesting that the house may have been divided into two separate living spaces.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a three-window range. The 19th-century fenestration is intact, with all three light casements having three panes per light. There is a gabled slate roof over the rendered porch, and the inner door is a four-panelled design, with the upper two panels glazed. A 20th-century lean-to is located at the left end, featuring a plank inner door.

Inside, the joinery is primarily from the 19th and early 20th centuries. There is a steep straight-run staircase at the rear of the entrance passage. The roof has pegged A-frame trusses, mainly from the 19th century, but it also incorporates some reused timber from the 17th century. An attached lofted stable at the left end has a corrugated iron roof.
