Description
Church House Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid-17th century and has been altered. It is constructed of handmade brick and features a slate roof. The building has a three-bay baffle-entry plan and stands two storeys high. There is a first-floor band, but the wall above this is now covered by 20th-century applied "half-timbering" with plastered panels. The entrance is a board door aligned with the ridge chimney at the junction of the second and third bays. The ground floor has four 4-pane sash windows, while the first floor features three casements. The rear of the building has also been altered.
Inside, the ground floor retains key elements of the 17th-century structure, including back-to-back inglenook fireplaces in the second and third bays. The fireplace in the second bay has a stopped quarter-round moulded bressummer and an altered firewindow, while the fireplace in the third bay features a stop-chamfered bressumer. The rooms have beams that match the bressumers, with lateral beams in the second bay and longitudinal beams in the third. A staircase is located off the rear left corner of the second bay, and the former staircase in the front right corner of the third bay has been removed. There are also service-end doorways from the second bay.
