Description

South View is a cruck-framed farmhouse with a shippon, now converted into a house. It likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been altered and extended over time. The building is constructed of handmade brick and features a steeply-pitched roof covered with corrugated sheets over thatch, hipped at the left end. The gable faces the road, and the structure has a long rectangular plan with five bays. The right half was probably originally used as shippons, with the right end being an addition.

The farmhouse is single storey, with part of it lofted. There is a board door slightly left of the ridge chimney located at the junction of the second and third bays. To the left of the door, there are two windows, and to the right, there are four windows, all of which have been altered or inserted. Additionally, there is a very small window in the eaves of the third bay. A padstone and the foot of a cruck blade are visible at the junction of the first and second bays.

Inside, there are three full cruck trusses of small scantling at the junctions of the first and second, second and third, and fourth and fifth bays, although details are concealed. The loft features curvy purlins and rafters with thatch ties still in place. This building is now a rare example of a type that was once typical of the Fylde region.
