Description
Lower Langthwaite Farmhouse, built in 1741, is constructed from slobbered rubble and topped with a corrugated iron roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The original windows feature flush chamfered mullions. On the ground floor, the left-hand bay has a three-light window, while the middle bay has a two-light window. The first-floor windows in these bays were originally two-light windows, but the mullions have been removed. The right-hand bay, likely a converted farm building, has windows with plain reveals and a door to the left of the ground-floor window, which has a segmental arch above a blocked wide doorway. Between the first and second bays is a porch with a door in its left-hand return wall. Above the porch is an oval plaque inscribed with 'TAA 1741'. The house features chimneys on the left-hand gable and to the right of the middle bay. On the rear wall, above a blocked doorway, is a re-set datestone of unusual design, inscribed 'TE AD 1639', depicting a man with a staff, animals, and a tree, possibly representing a hunting scene. Adjacent to the farmhouse is a barn that has a wide doorway with plain reveals and a sliding door in its front wall, along with a narrower doorway to its left, also with plain reveals.
