Description

This barn, located approximately 50 metres east of Allanson Hall, dates back to 1686. It is constructed from handmade brick, with stone quoins and dressings, and currently has corrugated sheet roofing. The barn has a T-plan layout, with the south range (the front) featuring an interrupted brick band of four courses, where the middle courses are rubbed or moulded to create a rounded profile. The top course has parts of stone slate covering, and there are ventilation slits in the upper half of the wall.

In the centre of the front, there are two doorways with stone jambs and Tudor-arched moulded lintels. The doorway on the right is inscribed in relief with the letters "G G D 16 86." At the left end, there are two similar doorways, one of which has a stepped moulding on its lintel. The right gable wall includes a wide doorway with moulded stone jambs and a wooden lintel, while the rear of this bay features a window on each floor, with the lower window having a brick hoodmould.
