Description
A row of three cottages, dating from around 1800, stands on Market Street. The cottages are constructed of watershot coursed squared stone blocks, with large quoins highlighting all four corners. They have a stone slate roof and two chimneys on the ridge, with an additional chimney at the right-hand gable. Each cottage has a double pile plan and a single front. Each cottage features a doorway on the left side, distinguished by plain stone jambs, a semi-circular stone head with a keystone and imposts, and a recessed tympanum. Above the doorways, the cottages each have one sash window to each floor. The rear elevation displays rectangular casements (with large heads to the ground floor windows) and small roof lights, positioned under the eaves. Brick lean-to porches of a later date have been added. The cottages are notable as a well-preserved example of their period, forming a visually harmonious group.
