Description
The aqueduct over the River Douglas, built in the 1790s, was designed for the south branch of the Lancaster Canal by engineer John Rennie. It is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings and abutments. The structure features a round arch, a cornice, and a coped parapet, with the abutments swept out at the base. The aqueduct includes two tow paths, with the southern path showing signs of wear on the parapet from tow ropes.
