Description
This barn, located approximately 10 meters east of Harden Hall, dates back to 1630. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn is a 5-bay, single-aisled structure that includes a tall square-headed cart entry set within a portal on the south side. Within the re-entrant angle, there are doorways to the aisle that have composite jambs and stop-chamfered surrounds. Similar doorways are found at either end, with the left doorway featuring a dated lintel that is currently blocked. To the left of the cart entry, there are two arrow-slit ventilators, and a garage doorway has been inserted to the right. The rear of the barn includes a cart entry with composite jambs, stop-chamfer, and a wooden lintel. To the right, there is a single-light window with an arched lintel and sunken spandrels. The right gable features a 2-light double-chamfered mullioned window set in the apex.
Inside, the barn boasts a well-preserved timbered roof with king-post trusses and single-angle struts. The posts rest on padstones and are supported by curved braces that connect to the tie-beams and arcade plate.
