Description

Bank Bottom Cottage is a former endowed school, dating from around 1680, with a mid-20th century extension. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with roughly dressed quoins, and has a stone slate roof. The original section comprises three bays, representing the former Sunday School room. It features an original chamfered mullioned window with three arched lights and sunken spandrels to the right. A doorway has been inserted, and a window altered on the left side. Two ridge stacks are present. The right-hand return wall has an original three-light window and a coped gable with kneelers. This is a rare and early example of an endowed school.
