HEAPEY TAN HOUSE LANE SD 52 SE 5/119 Critchley's Farmhouse - (west part only) - II

Farmhouse, now house. Probably early C17, altered. Squared sandstone with quoins, stone slate roof with brick chimney at gable. Two bays. One-and-a- half storeys; modern stone porch at right hand end (overlapping later addition at this end), 2 square but unequal windows at ground floor (2-and 3-light casements), a small 2-light casement in the eaves above the second of these. Rear wall of different builds, with an irregular stepped junction between: small random rubble to the 2nd bay, squared stone in diminishing courses to the 1st bay, this part set back slightly; 2 inserted windows to the 1st bay, a doorway altered as a window in the 2nd bay. Interior: timber framed post-and-rail partition wall with wattle-and-daub infil and the lintel of a doorway framed into the front end; similar service-room partition in 1st bay (part removed); at 1st floor a large collar truss, the tie beam severed in the centre by an anciently-inserted doorway with arched head undercut in the collar.
