Description
Spring Close Farm is a house dating from the 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and five bays, with large quoins. The second bay includes a storied porch, although the entrance has been converted into a window. The ground floor windows, which are all from the 20th century, include a tripartite sash, a 16-pane sash, French windows, a two-light casement, and a three-light casement. On the upper floor, there are 20th-century 16-pane sashes set in earlier openings, complete with stone sills and incised lintels. The building has shaped kneelers, ashlar coping, and a corniced ridge stack located to the right of the former porch.
Inside, there are remains of timber wall posts and cross beams, indicating that an earlier timber-framed building was encased in stone. The floor joists in the central living room have scarfed joints where they may have once been attached to a timber fire-hood. There is a 19th-century kitchen wing at the rear, an attached stable range to the left, and a single-storey outshut to the right, which is not of special interest.
