Description
Stockton Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has a two-cell central lobby-entry plan and is double depth, standing two storeys high with three bays, plus an added bay to the left.
The house has quoins and a central doorway with composite jambs, above which is a blind window framed with plain stone. On either side of the doorway are very wide 28-pane sash windows, also with plain stone surrounds, and above them are 21-pane sashes. The gables are coped with kneelers and stacks. The added bay to the left is set back and contains a 30-pane sash window with a 24-pane sash above, both featuring projecting sills and lintels that are cut with false voussoirs. The left gable has a coped finish and a stack. At the rear, there are two bays of windows, with lintels cut with false voussoirs on either side of a partly blocked stair window that has composite jambs.
Inside, the two main rooms of the house have large chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. One of the rooms features a six-paned door with raised-and-fielded panels. The added kitchen includes a large fireplace with monolithic jambs and a lintel, to which a chimney crane is attached.
