Description

Thorpe Farmhouse is probably of the later 17th century, with remodelling in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins, and has a stone slate roof. The farmhouse has a double-depth, four-room plan. The front elevation is two storeys high and has two bays, appearing almost symmetrical. A modern, single-storey, gabled porch is set to the left of centre and protects the doorway, which has a plain surround. There are two three-light windows on each floor, all with flat-faced flush mullions and plain surrounds. Gable chimneys are present, along with gable copings and kneelers. A modern addition is located at the right-hand end and is not included in the listing. The right-hand return wall features a doorway leading to a rear room, and a blocked taking-in door is visible on the first floor. The rear elevation includes a chamfered doorway which has been altered into a window, and recessed mullioned windows of 17th-century type flank it. To the left, there is a four-light window lacking its first and third mullions; to the right, a three-light window with chamfered mullions.

Inside, both rear rooms have large, stop-chamfered longitudinal beams with run-out stops.
