Description

This is a former tram shed, likely dating from around 1909 and originally built for Leeds City Tramways. It has been altered since its original construction. The building is constructed from rock-faced sandstone with ashlar dressings, and has a roof of composition tiles. It is a long, rectangular structure with set-back canted wings designed for vehicle entrances. The design is in a classical style.

The building stands two and a half storeys high, with nineteen bays, plus single-bay wings, and is symmetrical, featuring a projecting three-bay centre. It has rusticated quoins, a first floor band at a high level, and large, vertical rectangular windows at ground floor level. These windows have raised moulded sills and flat-arched heads with triple keystones; the centre of the projecting section features raised rock-faced vertical panels with central roundels. Square windows are present at the first floor, except within the projecting centre, and have rock-faced lintels. There is a prominent cornice and a low parapet.

Each end wing has a large, flat-arched vehicle doorway with a triple keystone and splayed voussoirs, alternately rock-faced. The left-hand end wall features three windows with panels between them, which are horizontal and otherwise similar to those on the front elevation. The parapet displays a panel with raised lettering reading "LEEDS CITY TRAMWAYS".
