Description

The lychgate to the Church of St. Oswald is an early 20th-century structure made of snecked sandstone with a stone slate roof. It features front and rear archways designed in the Perpendicular style, which are moulded in two orders and include hoodmoulds connected to a dripmould that runs around the entire structure. At the gable, there is a band with a small statue of St. Oswald on a corbel in the center, with the word "OSWALD" to the left and "PATRON SAINT" to the right, along with the inscription "SOLDIER KING MARTYR OF GUISELEY." The gable has coping with kneelers and finials, topped with a cross. Each side wall has an oculus.

Inside, the side walls are lined with inscribed granite panels. The left side features a band that reads "READ HERE THE NAMES OF GUISELEY MEN WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1914-1918," listing 76 names, while the right side has a band that states "REST ETERNAL GRANT UNTO THEM GOOD LORD IN THY PARADISE," with 75 names. The lychgate is included for its group value.
