Description
AIREBOROUGH CHURCH STREET SE 14 SE LS 20 (south side) Guiseley 10A/47 Group of 5 monuments - in angle between chancel and vestry of Church of St. Oswald GV II
Group of 5 monuments, comprising 2 tomb chests dated 1722 and 1790 and slabs now set vertically against wall, one with date erased, others dated 1708 and 1772. All sandstone. Tomb chest, Ann Sergeant, d.1790, with panelled sides and lid with incised arched decoration at the head. Tomb chest, Mary Holden, d.1722, with large block sides, lid with incised margin scrolled at the corners, raised date in sunk panel, and raised decorated initial letter H in sunk panel. Slab, Christopher Brown, date erased, but surround like that of Mary Holden's tomb above. Slab, Thomas Brown, d. 1772, plain. Slab, Mr. Christopher Brown, d.1708, with surround of very primitive Corinthian columns and foliated arched head with skull and cross-bones; elegant incised lettering.
