Description

Ireby Hall Farmhouse is a house, probably dating from the early 17th century, that has been altered over time. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features a steep slate roof. The building has two storeys and a front with three bays that contain modern windows with plain reveals. Above the left-hand ground-floor window is a re-set battlemented lintel inscribed with the year '1641'. The central bay has a door beneath a modern glazed porch, which is framed by a chamfered surround with a Tudor-arched head. To the left is a second door, also under a glazed porch, which overlaps one bay of a taller addition likely built in the early 19th century. This addition has windows with plain stone surrounds and glazing bars. Further left, there is a second bay of this addition that projects forward under a hipped roof, featuring chamfered quoins and sashed windows with plain stone surrounds. The chimney is located on the ridge above this bay, with additional chimneys to the left of the middle bay of the original house and on the right-hand gable. Inside, the left-hand room has a very wide fireplace with a rendered segmental arch. Two large main joists with mouldings typical of the 16th century intersect here, and these mouldings have run-out stops, indicating they are not re-used. On the first floor, there is panelling with vertical panels and moulded muntins and rails.
