Description
Bainbridge House is a house, possibly dating from the early 17th century, consisting of two sections. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a slate roof, standing two storeys high. The earlier part, located on the left, features two bays with rebated and chamfered windows. The ground floor windows have hood moulds; the left window retains its mullions and is a three-light window, while the right window has been enlarged and features a flat-faced mullion. There is also a fire window with plain reveals on the ground floor. On the first floor, the windows, which were originally two lights, no longer have any remaining mullions. A dog-leg in the straight joint indicates that the eaves of the right-hand addition were raised before the left part of the front wall was elevated.
The addition includes a ground floor window that has the remains of a three-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window, which now has a larger modern window inserted. To the right of this window, under the same hood, is a blocked one-light fire window. On the first floor, there is a sashed window with plain reveals, and to its right, at a lower level, is a blocked one-light window. The house features chimneys located between the main house and the addition, as well as on the right-hand gable wall, which has a projecting stack. The interior was not accessible during the survey, but the middle room appears to have a cyma-moulded stone fireplace typical of the 18th century.
