Description
Masongill Lodge is a house dated 1709 with 20th-century alterations, located in Thornton in Lonsdale. It is constructed of slobbered squared rubble with painted stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The building has a three-cell plan and features a gable end facing the street.
The entrance front is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The entrance, located to the right of center, is in a gabled porch with a moulded entrance surround and a decorated lintel inscribed with "IT 1709." The door is a 20th-century plank door. On the left side of the ground floor, there is a three-light double chamfered mullioned window, with a straight joint that may indicate a blocked entrance. Immediately to the left of the porch is a two-light double chamfered mullioned stair window. On the right side of the ground floor, there is another three-light double chamfered mullioned window, and there are two similar windows on the upper floor. The windows feature two-pane casements and fixed lights, except for the stair window, which has leaded fixed lights. The right-hand gable end has a ridge stack, and there is a left-hand ridge stack at the former left-hand gable, which is now at the junction with a former barn that has been extended to become part of the house.
