Description
Far Side Farmhouse with integral barn is an 18th-century farmhouse that incorporates some features from the 17th century. The building has been altered over time. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and has a stone slate roof. The structure is a long rectangular range oriented approximately north-south, with the house located at the south end, which consists of two bays and is likely double-depth.
The farmhouse is two storeys high. On the east side, there is a chamfered doorway and an altered window, both situated beneath a long, high-set hoodmould. There is also a small window at the left end and, on the first floor, two 18th-century, two-light flush-mullion windows featuring sashes and glazing bars. The west side includes a single-storey porch-cum-kitchen extension. To the south of this extension, there are two deeply-recessed mullioned windows on each floor, which have mostly been altered, but some mullions remain. The ground floor windows were originally of four and three (or four) lights, both with hoodmoulds, while the first floor has three-light windows, one of which remains unaltered and retains its hoodmould. A chimney is located on the ridge at the junction of the bays.
The barn extends to the north and has also been altered and extended. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to contain features of interest.
