Description
No. 5 Grimshaw Street is a town house, which was later adapted as an office, built around 1850. It has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and afterwards. The building is constructed from watershot coursed sandstone and features a slate roof. It has a double-depth, single-fronted plan with three storeys and two windows. The low plinth and prominent moulded gutter cornice add to its architectural character.
On the ground floor, the doorway is located to the left and is framed by a moulded architrave and a cornice supported by consoles. The door is recessed and panelled, topped with an overlight that has geometrical glazing bars. There is also a later 19th-century triple window with segmental-headed lights and altered glazing. The upper floors feature unhorned sashed windows without glazing bars, with the second-floor windows being shorter. All windows have raised sills and plain squared surrounds. A ridge chimney is positioned at the junction to the left.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, this building served as the office for the local architectural firm of William Waddington & Son.
