Description
No. 13 Chapel Street is a town house that has been converted into an office. It was built in the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has a double-depth, double-fronted plan and stands three storeys tall with three symmetrical windows.
The central doorway is accessed by three steps and is framed by a pilastered architrave with a cornice supported by consoles, leading to panelled double doors. The ground and first floors have windows with raised sills and wedge lintels. The ground floor windows have been recently enlarged by lowering the sills and are now fitted with plate glass. The first floor features tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, while the window above the door has been replaced with a top-hung casement, also with glazing bars. On the second floor, there is a central four-pane sash window flanked by plain coupled sashes in the outer bays, all with raised sills and heads beneath a shallow eaves cornice. The building has gable chimneys. The rear and interior of the property were not inspected. This building is included for its group value.
