Description

This is a large town house, likely built around 1800, and later altered. It is now part of solicitors' offices. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and extends over cellars, with four bays arranged over four storeys. A moulded sill band runs across the upper floors, with a plain frieze and moulded cornice above. The main doorway, situated in the third bay, is accessed by one step and features a moulded architrave with dentils and a cornice resting on consoles. A small, shallow internal porch is present, with two steps, enclosed by a pair of cast-iron ornamental gates. The panelled door is topped with a rectangular overlight. To the right of the doorway, a pair of coupled sash windows lacks glazing bars, sitting under a large rectangular stone lintel. To the left are two further sash windows, also without glazing bars, with raised sills and wedge lintels. At the first floor, four tall windows have been altered to casements, each with small segmental cast-iron balonies and hooped railings. The upper floors each contain four-pane sash windows, with the third-floor windows being square. Wedge lintels are present above the first and second floor windows. Two cellar gratings are located to the left of the doorway. A large, multiple-flue extruded chimney is found at the left gable. The roof is hipped at the right-hand end, with two chimneys positioned near this end, one being axial. The rear of the building and the interior have not been inspected.
