Description

Nos. 5, 7, and 9 Nicholas Street are three town houses that form a terraced row on the west side of the street, originally built around 1850 and now used as offices. The houses are constructed from watershot coursed squared sandstone and feature a slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan and is single-fronted, rising three storeys over cellars.

At the first floor, the houses currently have a configuration of 2+1+2 windows, although they likely originally had a 1+1+2 arrangement. A continuous moulded gutter cornice runs along the top. The doorway of No. 5 is located to the right, while Nos. 7 and 9 have their doorways to the left. All doorways feature plain jambs and lintels with shallow moulded cornices. Each house has a cellar window that is now closed with a metal plate, one window at the ground floor, and two windows at the second floor. No. 5 has two windows at the first floor, No. 7 has one, and No. 9 has two windows, one of which has been inserted. All windows have plain surrounds and altered glazing.

The interiors have not been inspected but are understood to have been remodelled. These houses form a group with Nos. 1 and 3 to the right and Nos. 11 and 13A to the left, representing a good example of late Georgian town housing.
