Description

Mount Farm Cottage and Nunnery Cottage are two houses located on Orrell Road, dating from the early 19th century, with parts from the 17th century and 20th-century extensions. A datestone on the rear garden wall reads "PEP/1652". The buildings are constructed of dressed stone with slate roofs and possibly a felted roof over stone slate.

The eastern part, known as Nunnery Cottage, is early 19th century, featuring two storeys and three bays. It has an ashlar base and cornice, with windows that have wedge lintels and three-light small-paned casements, where the upper panes display round-headed Y-tracery glazing. Above the entrance, there is a two-light window. The round-headed entrance includes an archivolt with a key and a fanlight with intersecting glazing bars, leading to a 20th-century door. Gable-end brick stacks are present.

The western part, Mount Farm Cottage, has a south facade that features a seven-light double-chamfered-mullioned window with a drip stone on the ground floor, and a similar five-light window and casement on the first floor, along with a plain entrance. A brick ridge stack with diaper detailing is also present. The left return has been rebuilt, and there is a rear extension. Inside, the cottage retains chamfered beams and a fireplace bressumer.
