Description

The Stamford Estates Office and National Trust Shop, formerly listed under Dunham Road, is a late 18th-century building located on the north-east side of High Street in Altrincham. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a stone slate roof. The structure consists of four by one bays and is two stories high. A stone plinth, a first-floor sill band, a modillion eaves cornice, and a hipped roof enhance its architectural appeal. The central two bays are slightly advanced and pedimented, with the entrance located in bay three. This entrance includes a six-panel door flanked by fluted three-quarter columns, side panels, and an enriched fanlight. The building has three 12-pane sash windows with stone sills and cambered brick arches. Bays one and four feature tripartite ground floor sashes beneath a semi-circular recessed brick panel and nine-pane first floor sashes. The Market Street elevation displays a recessed semi-circular headed panel within a larger one. The former carriage entry has a semi-circular brick arch with a coped parapet above. Inside, there is a good staircase that is semi-elliptical in plan, with tapering treads and a hardwood rail.
