Description
Ridge End is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with a graduated stone slate roof and features brick stacks. The building has an H-shaped layout with two storeys plus an attic, a two-storey central rear wing, and 20th-century additions to the right. There are gabled crosswings on either side of a central bay, with a projecting plinth and coped gables that have kneelers and ball finials. Each crosswing contains a four-light, a three-light, and a two-light window, all with double-chamfered stone mullions and dripmoulds. The windows in the house part were enlarged in the 19th century, and the door is located to the right. The upper floor retains a four-light window similar to those below. There is a later porch on the left elevation and two additional windows, one of which has had its mullions removed, while the other is a three-light window. The rear of each crosswing also has similar two and three-light windows, although the right side is obscured by the 20th-century addition. The house features two brick chimney stacks with stone oversailing courses. Many internal features, including the staircase and some beams, date from an early 20th-century restoration.
