Description
Barrat Farmhouse and the adjoining barn are early 19th-century buildings constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The farmhouse is a two-bay, double-depth structure that is deeper than the barn, which is attached to the left. The front of the house projects, and its gable serves as the principal elevation, which is an unusual design for a laith-house. A 20th-century porch has been added at the angle of the house. The original entrance has been converted into a window and is located in the gable end, which features two 2-light flat-faced mullion windows and two additional windows with square-cut surrounds. The rear of the house has two windows, one of which is blocked, along with a later window. A ridge chimney stack is present.
The barn has a symmetrical elevation that is dominated by a basket-arched cart entry featuring impost blocks. On either side of this entry are doors with square-cut stone surrounds and small adjoining windows. Above the cart entry is an arched light with impost blocks, a keystone, and a lintel inscribed with the year 18?9. There is also a later lean-to addition against the left gable and the rear of the barn.
