Description

The River Roch Aqueduct over the railway is a Grade II listed structure built around 1839 for the Manchester Leeds Railway Company, designed by engineer George Stephenson. It is constructed from rock-faced stone and features cast-iron side walls. The aqueduct has an S-shaped curve in its design and includes a skew segmental arch that spans the railway. The trough of the aqueduct has a stone base and prefabricated side walls that are approximately 1.5 meters in height, bolted together in sections.
