Description
Lydgate Cottage is a house that was once divided into cottages, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two bays and two storeys, with an additional bay added to the left and a later porch. The corners of the building are accentuated with quoins. The porch wing appears to have been raised in height and includes a two-light chamfered mullion window, with doors on either side. Flanking the porch are three-light windows on the ground floor and a four-light and a three-light window on the first floor, the former of which has a blocked light. All windows throughout the cottage have chamfered mullions. The added bay to the left has a door with a square-cut surround and one and two-light windows. There are also two and three-light windows on the gable ends and at the rear, with flat-faced mullions on the gable ends and chamfered mullions at the rear.
