Description

SD 91 NE LITTLEBOROUGH BLACKSTONE EDGE OLD ROAD (south side) 2/9 Rough Farmhouse - - II Farmhouse. Early C18 with later additions. Hammer-dressed stone with graduated stone slate roof. 2-bay single-depth plan with 2 storeys and later barn to left with lean-to additions front and rear. Quoins and projecting plith. Door flanked by 4-light chamfered mullion window (each with 2 mullions missing). Two 2-light first floor (mullions missing). Lean-to addition obscures rear ground floor but first floor has two 3-light windows;one with flat-faced mullions, the other chamfered. A small window with arched lintel is obscured by a brick addition. Barn uses watershot stone, has a cart entry (now not visible) and later opening in the gable. Formerly used as a toll house for the Rochdale-Halifax turnpike road before its diversion.
