Description
Numbers 10 and 12 on Wood Street in Bolton were built as a bank in 1849 and are now used as a college. The building is constructed of ashlar stone, with a rusticated ground floor and a slate roof. It has two storeys and features a five-window range. There are doorways on either side, raised on steps and set within flat arched openings that have stressed voussoir heads. The three central windows also have flat heads with heavy stressed voussoirs. The upper storey has 12-pane sash windows, with the central three being arcaded and recessed in round-arched architraves that include imposts and keystones. The building is characterized by heavy quoins and a cornice, with end wall stacks. There are two-storey low pavilions on each side, featuring round arched windows and stepped parapets topped with ball finials. The upper storey is stepped back and may be a later addition. The interior has not been inspected.
