Description
18 and 20 Wood Street is a pair of houses, now used as offices, that date back to around 1790. They are part of a longer terrace that includes Nos. 14 and 16 Wood Street. The buildings are constructed of brick and topped with a slate roof.
The exterior features three stories and an 11-window range. The two houses are symmetrically designed, each with a central entrance flanked by two windows on either side, and they are separated by a segmentally arched carriage entrance. Both houses have six-panelled doors with wrought-iron fanlights set in pedimented cases with engaged shafts.
At the ground floor of No. 18, there are 12-pane sash windows, along with a fixed six-light window to the right of the doorway. In No. 20, the ground floor windows have been renewed with two-pane sashes. The upper windows in No. 20 have also been replaced with two-pane sashes, while the remaining upper windows are 12-pane sashes, with four and six-pane attic windows. The upper windows of No. 18 have all been renewed in their original openings, although one has been reduced in size above the doorway. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the buildings, and there are end wall stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
