Description

The Statue of Samuel Crompton, located in Nelson Square, Bolton, was created in 1862 by sculptor William Calder Marshall. It features a bronze figure of Samuel Crompton, who lived from 1753 to 1827, seated on a polished granite plinth. The plinth includes inscriptions and low relief bronze panels that depict Crompton's home, Hall i' th' Wood, and the Spinning Mule. The statue was funded by public subscription at the time of its erection.
