Description

Keepers Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high. The entrance front features 12 by 3 cells of small framing with angle braces at the right, left, and centre. There is a late 17th-century addition on the right, consisting of 6 by 3 cells of small framing with curved angle braces. To the left, there is a 19th-century addition made of brick, painted to resemble timber framing, along with another 19th-century lean-to addition at the far right. The doorway is located to the right of centre on the earliest portion, with two-light ground floor windows to the left. The first floor has two slightly canted 19th-century casement windows, each with four lights. The right gable end features a heavily cambered tie-beam with queen posts above, and a king post with V-strut at the apex. The rear of the house has 12 by 3 cells of small framing in the central portion, with some irregularities and angle braces at the right, left, and centre. There is scattered 19th-century fenestration, including single and two-light casement windows. Inside, the ground floor rooms have chamfered ceiling beams, and the roof contains two sets of purlins and wind braces. There is a 19th-century kitchen range and some hob grates in the upstairs rooms.
