Description

The Old Post Office is a 17th-century house located in Cinder Hill, formerly part of the Winsford Urban District. It is timber-framed with brick infill and has brick walling, originally covered by a thatched roof, but now with corrugated asbestos sheeting. The house has two storeys and a baffle-entry, two-cell plan. The front elevation has two bays, with two 3-light windows from the 19th century on the right side and a door on the left. A 4-light first-floor window is positioned to the right of centre, partially obscured by the asbestos roofing, and likely originally accompanied a swept dormer. The right-hand gable end displays small timber framing with angle braces and a 2-light, cambered-headed ground-floor window. An outshut is attached to the rear with painted walls made of red sandstone. Inside, the parlour features an ingle nook hearth with a 19th-century chimney piece and cupboards to the left. The first-floor window retains 17th-century chamfered mullions. The roof structure includes queen posts and a V-strut to the apex.
