Description
The gatepiers in the churchyard of St Mary, dated 1736, are made of ashlar and consist of a pair of square piers. The sides facing the green feature a projecting plinth with moulded tops. Each pier has two lower raised and fielded rectangular panels arranged vertically. Above these, there is a smaller rectangular panel set horizontally, with an additional vertically set panel above it, which is dated on the right-hand side. The piers are capped with cyma moulded caps and have what appear to be later finials, featuring round ogee moulded stems that support large balls. The rear faces of the piers facing the churchyard are similar, while the inner faces have rectangular rebates topped with acorn finials. There is ramped walling on either side, with late 19th-century gates positioned between them, although these gates are not listed.
