Description
The lych-gate in the churchyard of St Mary, dated 1921, is a structure erected in memory of Katherine Lucy Cholmondeley, who was born on 12th November 1824 and died on 6th March 1921. It was built by her children. The gate features a timber frame with a plain tile roof resting on a low ashlar base. The square body has a gabled roof, and the ashlar base has a chamfered top. The sides are designed with close studding and a middle rail, without infill, and there are arches on both the road and churchyard fronts. The gables have decorative timber-framed infill, along with decorative bargeboards and bargeposts. An inscription on the bressumer facing the road reads: "THEM : WHICH : SLEEP : IN : JESUS : WILL : GOD : BRING : WITH : HIM." The gate is included for its group value.
