Description

Beech Farmhouse, now known as Rivendell, is a late 17th-century farmhouse with 18th and 20th-century additions. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill, and has a thatched roof. The front of the house has nine cells by two, with angle braces spaced fifth from the left and at the right. A doorway is at the extreme left, and there are two 2-light casement windows on the ground floor. A swept dormer window with four lights is on the right of the first floor, and a similar 2-light window is on the left. To the right of this is a single-story 18th-century addition, consisting of eight cells by two, with an angle brace at the right, and three 2-light casement windows. A projecting, gabled, and jettied two-story addition is to the left. The left-hand gable end has four cells by two, with a thin angle brace on the left and a queen post strut to the gable. The rear has seven cells by two of small framing to the single-story portion on the left. A 20th-century brick chimney breast with offsets sits between the 17th-century and single-story portions, which has four cells by two of small framing on the left, with a 20th-century 3-light ground floor window and a 3-light swept dormer above. To the right of this is a 20th-century outshut with a projecting, gable-ended wing to the right. The interior ground floor rooms have chamfered ceiling beams.
