Description

Olive Cottage is a house dating from the mid 17th century, with a late 17th-century addition. It is timber framed with brick infill and has a thatched roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of two sections, with the right-hand portion being the earlier part. This section features 11 x 2 cells of small framing with angle braces on the right and left, as well as at the right of centre. The entrance is located at the far left and includes a half-glazed 20th-century door and a gabled porch. To the right of the entrance, there are a 3-light window and a 2-light window on the ground floor, along with a single light window on the first floor to the left and a 2-light swept dormer window to the right.

The later section on the left has 3 x 2 cells of small framing and a central doorway with a lean-to porch. Above this doorway, there is a 2-light swept dormer window on the first floor. The building has chimney stacks at the far right and to the left of centre. The right-hand end features a 19th or 20th-century chimney stack to the right of centre and has rendered walling that is mostly painted to resemble timber framing, although some timber is visible on the lower wall and gable. The left-hand end also has some visible timber framing on the lower wall, but is mostly painted in simulation of timber framing.

At the rear, the left side features 9 x 2 cells of small framing with angle braces, and there is a canted ground floor bow window with a hipped roof on the right, along with a 2-light ground floor window on the left. Above this, there are three 2-light swept dormer windows. The later portion on the right has 3 x 2 cells of small framing and includes one 3-light ground floor casement window.

Inside, there is a small-framed dividing wall and chamfered ceiling beams in the parlour. One other ground floor room has had its pine ceiling beams replaced in the 20th century due to a fire. The first floor features two trusses with queen posts and lateral upright posts, and there are two flights of stairs leading from the half-landing to the different portions of the house.
