Description
Bickley Moss Cottage is a building that dates back to 1673 and was originally two cottages that have been converted into one dwelling. The structure features brick-nogged oak small framing, which until the late 20th century included some wattle and daub, and is topped with a thatched roof. It has one storey plus attic bedrooms and is L-shaped, with each wing having previously functioned as a separate cottage.
The front wing includes a canted, one-storey bay window with a hipped slate roof, and above it is a thatched gabled half-dormer. There is a door, which may have been inserted later, located to the left under an open gabled porch supported by brackets, with a small one-pane casement window above. All casements have been replaced but are in keeping with the original style. The former ridge chimney in the front wing has been completely removed. A beam at the left end is carved with the initials I.O.W and the date 1673. The gables also feature casements.
The rear wing has three windows and includes a 20th-century boarded oak door with a gabled porch, one gabled dormer, a ridge chimney, and a flush gable chimney. Additionally, there are two "eyebrow" dormers on the garden side of the rear wing.
