Description
Shingles Cottages is a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations and additions. They feature a brick nogged timber frame, partly clad in shingles, and have a machine tile roof. The cottages are two storeys high, with two windows each. The small framing is complemented by cedar shingle cladding above the first floor level. The original windows have been replaced with two-light casements that include glazing bars, with those on the first floor located in gables and half dormers. There are two doors, one fully glazed and one beaded and studded, both sheltered by lean-to hoods supported by shaped brackets. At the rear, there is a full-length lean-to and a single-storey extension to the north-east, creating an "L" shaped plan. The timbers are visible in the gables, but no beams are exposed in the interior.
