Description
The Holtridge is an early 17th-century farmhouse with a later 17th or early 18th-century addition. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick and Flemish bond brick, with a plain tile roof. The building has a T-shaped plan; the original part forms the downstroke, originally with a baffle entry plan. The later addition forms the cross stroke. The north-facing facade has two bays, with a 20th-century oriel window of the centre of the ground floor, replacing the original doorway. The stone sill of the original doorway remains visible. To either side of the oriel are three-light casement windows with 20th-century flat-headed fenestration. A band of bricks, two bricks deep, runs between the ground and first floors. Two three-light flat-headed casement windows are on the first floor. A cogged band runs below the eaves. Stone springers and coping are to either gable end. A chimney stack is at the right-hand side. The rear of the house shows the earlier wing at the centre, with 20th-century replaced fenestration to both sides and, at the gable end, a reset 17th-century plank door with coffin nail decoration, set within a 19th-century timber porch. The interior of the earliest part of the house features chamfered ceiling beams in the later portion, and one 17th-century plank door with decorated strap hinges.
