Description

Numbers 128, 130, and 132 on Northgate Street are three shops with living accommodation above, refurbished and built in 1799. The buildings are made of brown brick in Flemish bond on the front, topped with a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the street. They stand three storeys tall. Each shopfront lacks special architectural features, but there is a nearly flush tripartite sash window above each shop on the upper storeys. The windows consist of 2;4;2 panes for both storeys of Nos 128 and 130, while No. 132 has a second-storey window with 4;12;4 panes and a third-storey window with 2;6;2 panes. The windows have painted stone sills, flat gauged brick arches over the second-storey windows, and cambered brick arches over the third-storey windows of Nos 128 and 130. There is raised lettering "BC" on the rainwater head, and a butterfly bracket below it, which is dated 1799. The buildings also feature a wooden fascia, plain eaves, and three brick chimneys in front of the ridge and three behind it. The features on the north gable end and at the rear have been replaced but are in keeping with the original design. The interiors do not have any visible features of special interest.
