Description
Nos 4 and 5 Market Place are two shops with dwellings above, dating from the early 19th century, with later 19th-century alterations. They are constructed of brown brick in Flemish bond, featuring red brick quoins and window jambs, and have a Roman tile roof. The building is three storeys high and has two bays.
No 4, on the left, has a 19th-century shop front with a half-glazed door to the left, which is situated beneath an overlight with margin lights. The door and window are flanked by moulded pilasters that support a continuous frieze. No 5, on the right, also has a 19th-century shop front, featuring a half-glazed door to the right beneath an unglazed divided overlight. The moulded frieze is supported on fluted brackets beside the door and shop window.
On the first floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars, set beneath channelled wedge lintels with decorative keystones. The second floor features unequally-hung 9-pane sashes beneath similar lintels. The gutter is supported on paired brackets, and the building has a hipped roof with a ridge stack.
